Job Purpose
The Technician Machine Setter is responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and maintaining molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and assembly/verification systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. This role requires technical expertise in equipment repair, process troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance, as well as the ability to support continuous improvement initiatives and train less experienced technicians.
Job location: Onsite – Howell, MI
Work schedule: 2nd Shift
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair plastic injection molding and assembly/verification equipment, including PLC logic.
- Changeover, set up, start up, and maintain production lines while ensuring optimal efficiency.
- Monitor, diagnose, and repair process and equipment issues; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Service hardware controls, circuits, PLCs, VFDs, relay logic, motors, starters, and low/high-voltage systems (110/240/480V).
- Troubleshoot and perform touch-ups on 6-axis robots.
- Respond to machine alarms and resolve root causes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and inspection plans.
- Support technical teams and assist in training junior or less experienced technicians.
- Identify and propose continuous improvement opportunities across the plant.
- Perform spill cleanup, leak investigation, and maintain proper containment of materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; promptly report unsafe conditions.
- Follow all corporate and departmental environmental, quality, and safety programs, including proper use of PPE.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or degree preferred.
- Experience with plastic injection molding, assembly systems, and process troubleshooting strongly preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, motors, robotics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation (blueprints, schematics, specifications).
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to equipment reliability and process improvement.
- Team-oriented with the ability to train and mentor less experienced technicians.
- Computer proficiency and strong communication skills.
